Workshops on Ayurveda with Janae Christopher
Saturday, October 26, 2019
Session One | Living Veda $45 (Open to anyone)
In Sanskrit, the word veda means wisdom- in Ayurveda, Yoga’s sister science, it means ‘The Wisdom of Life’ and to know Ayurveda and to apply its practices to your life is to truly ‘Live Wisdom’. In this immersive workshop you will be guided by Janae Christopher, RYT AYS, on a journey through Ayurveda’s core teachings and philosophy that awakens us to the truth that we are reflections of nature and our own best healers.
In this workshop you will …
Learn the nature of your own self in mind and body by exploring the doshas and your unique mind/body type, how this influences your health and flavors your experiences in life.
Receive the blueprint that Ayurveda provides for living in rhythm with your mind/body type and nature and how to use this knowledge to cultivate balance, healing, and health into your everyday.
Integrate the wisdom by building your own dinacharya (daily ritual) plan, practicing self diagnostic tools, and receive a pulse assessment to confirm your mind/body type to support you moving forward with what you learn.
Handouts will be provided to supplement the material covered but you are welcome to bring a notebook, pen, and anything else you need to be comfortable for this session. There is no yoga asana practice in this session.
Session Two | Practicing Veda $45 (For Certified Teachers Only)
Yoga and Ayurveda are both written about in the Rig Veda, one of India’s oldest and most sacred texts. These two sciences are inherently woven together as yoga focuses on the development of the aspirants spiritual self, and Ayurveda encompasses the healing and maintaining of a balanced body, mind, and spirit. There was never one without the other and the reintroduction of Ayurveda within a yoga practice ensures a holistic approach to yoga asana and the yogic lifestyle.
In session one we explored the very physical aspects of Ayurveda and how it can support us with a strong, healthy, and vital body and mind. In this session we will explore how to seamlessly incorporate Ayurvedic wisdom into our own practice and our classes through intelligent feeling and intentional movement…
Feel into the energetics of the Gunas: Sattva, Rajas, and Tamas and learn their two governing laws, the importance of sankalpa, and how as teachers/practitioners we can guide ourselves and students toward a sattvic life.
Move with intention by adapting your classes to the season, time of day, or to the students who fill your class. Become observant of the dominant doshas and how to adapt and modify for a holistic approach to your asana program. We will practice short flows with postures designed to support Vata, Pitta, and Kapha along with pranayama that supports each dosha/type.
Certified Yoga Teachers may take Sessions 1 & 2 for a total of $80 (discount for doing both)
